Jewish Big Sisters of Chicagoland Jewish Big Sisters

Celebrating 9 Decades of Support and Friendship

What Is Jewish Big Sisters (JBS)?

Founded in 1916, Jewish Big Sisters (JBS) is the oldest Big Sister organization in the area. Jewish Big Sisters — an independent group of women — has provided friendship and companionship to more than 4,000 Jewish girls in Metropolitan Chicago.

Meeting a Need

Jewish Big Sisters fulfills emotional and interpersonal needs of girls ages 9 - 19 by providing social acceptance, warm understanding, guidance and recreational activities.
The group's services focus on two basic programs:

  1. Monthly Group Activities involving Big and Little Sisters, including cultural, religious, educational and recreational events — bowling, ice skating, miniature golf, movies, the zoo, pool parties, Chanukah and Passover celebrations, arts and crafts, plays, concerts, and picnics.
  2. One-to-One Relationship ("matches") between the Little Sister and her volunteer Big Sister.
