About Us
Jewish Big Sisters of Chicago (JBS) is the oldest Big Sister organization in the Chicago area. For about 95 years, this independent group of women has provided mentoring and friendship to Jewish girls between the ages of 8 and 19.
Our Mission
The mission of Jewish Big Sisters (JBS) is to aid Jewish girls by providing emotional, moral, social and educational assistance toward making them self-reliant, self-sustaining and self-supporting. JBS gives the Little Sister the opportunity to make herself a contributing member of the community.
The group's services focus on two basic programs: monthly group activities involving Big and Little Sisters, and one-to-one relationships ("matches") between a Little Sister and a Big Sister. Group activities offer many opportunities for friendship and discussion. These activities include cultural, religious, educational and recreational events:
- Arts and crafts
- Bowling
- Holiday celebrations
- Ice skating
- Miniature golf
- Movies
- Picnics and barbeques
- Plays, concerts and dance performances
- Pool parties
- Trips to the zoo
