Jewish Big Sisters (JBS) is supported entirely through donations and independent fund-raising efforts, and is not supported by the Jewish Federation or other agencies. Virtually every dollar received is used for direct services. JBS is a volunteer organization and performs its services without charge:
- Big Sisters pay modest annual dues and may make donations to cover their cost for monthly activities.
- Our Director of Social Services, a part-time licensed clinical professional, is the only salaried employee.
Jewish Big Sisters is a not-for-profit organization recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).
JBS is not connected to, or funded by, Big Brothers Big Sisters or other such groups. Although we share many of the same goals and values, JBS is a completely independent organization.
Donations are a great way to help the Little Sisters. When appropriate, JBS may provide referral resources to Little Sisters and their families and may provide financial assistance for specific needs (such as camps or other urgent needs).
