"Jewish Big Sisters (operates) on the principle that every dollar donated should actively result in meeting a need of a girl in the group: for camp tuition, dental work, tickets to hear good music or see good theater, or to provide the girl with a recreational group milieu where she is safe with friends."

John Halversen, former Director of Social Services

Why Be a Big Sister?

Fulfill Your Mitzvah: Become a Volunteer

Getting You Involved

Jewish Big Sisters (JBS) offers the best in volunteer opportunities: we are a well-established organization, yet flexible enough to respond to the changing needs of our Little Sisters. We focus on giving Little Sisters opportunities to create new relationships and learn about themselves. We also understand the need of Big Sisters to balance work, life and volunteerism.

The group's services focus on two basic programs:

  1. Monthly group activities involving Big and Little Sisters.
  2. One-to-one matched relationships between a Little Sister and a Big Sister.

Through JBS, you can make lasting friendships that endure time and distance. Read some of our True Stories of Big Sister/Little Sister experiences.

As a Big Sister, you can get involved at different levels of commitment, as your schedule permits. You attend meetings and group activities in addition to becoming matched with a Little Sister. Plus we have various officer and committee positions available.
